Changuu Private Island Paradise

Changuu private island, formerly prison island, is located to the north-west of Zanzibar stone town, less than 30minutes by local motor boat.

Accommodation:

The historical buildings and prison ruins have been restored and adapted to new uses while preserving their authenticity. The island offers two categories of accommodation; the 15 deluxe cottages built in the north-west of the island discretely distributed along the sea line, affording maximum privacy and seclusion.

The cottages are built from local materials with thatched roofs, and the spacious interiors elegantly decorated with en suite bathrooms featuring al fresco showers & a bathtub, comfortable beds with mosquito nets, and private outdoor verandas facing out to the sea.

In the south-west side of the island, the former quarantine area built in 1931 has been converted into 12 elegant, en suite standard sea-facing rooms with fantastic views of stone town, comfortable beds and mosquito nets.

Facilities & services:

The historical prison ruins have been converted into a bright living structure, offering a host of entertainment facilities, such as a café, boutique and library. The restaurant, serving Swahili & international dishes with fresh seafood, is an artfully restored building that was erected in the late 1890s; its wide veranda, enjoying the invigorating sea breeze, overlooks the fresh water swimming pool.

Other facilities include a floodlit tennis court, nature walks in the tropical forest covering the heart of the island with different flora and fauna, and home to the giant aldabra tortoises.
